Apple Sauce Brownies


Your family and friends will love this brownie recipe made with SunRype Unsweetened Apple Sauce!

1/2 cup (125 mL)
all-purpose flour
1/2 cup (125 mL)
whole wheat flour
1/3 cup (80 mL)
cocoa powder
1 1/4 tsp. (6 mL)
baking powder
1 tsp. (5.mL)
1/4 tsp. (1 mL)
baking soda
1 cup (250 mL)
brown sugar
1 1/4 cups (300 mL)
SunRype Unsweetened Apple Sauce
large egg
6 Tbsp. (90 mL)
butter or margarine, melted
1 cup (250 mL)
semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/3 cup (80 mL)
semi-sweet chocolate chips


Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray an 8 inch (20 cm) square baking dish with cooking spray & line with parchment paper (leave an overhang on all sides for easy removal from pan). In a bowl, add flours, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt & baking soda, and set aside. In a separate bowl, add sugar, SunRype Unsweetened Apple Sauce & egg. Melt butter & 1 cup (250 mL) chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl in the microwave in 30 second increments on medium setting, until melted. Stir chocolate mixture into sugar mixture. Stir in flour mixture. Pour into pan and sprinkle 1/3 cup (80 mL) chocolate chips on top. Bake 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out with moist crumbs attached. Cool in pan on a wire rack.
